My mission is to serve Santa Cruz
by delivering superb care for people of all ages with an emphasis on
health, wellness and prevention. My goal is to do this in a vital and
sustainable practice, where I love to work, my patients love to come,
and where care is collaborative and supportive.
This practice is unique, based on the Ideal Medical Practice model of
patient centered, collaborative health care. I operate without any
staff, provide same day access, and 24 hour on-call service for my
patients. With no staff, the barriers between us as doctor and patient
are minimized. When you call, I will answer the phone or will call you
back as soon as I am able.
Most medical practices stay financially viable by trying to see as many
patients as possible as efficiently as possible. They employ many
people to assist the physician to absorb the office workload so many
patients can be seen. Typical physician schedules allow 10 to 15
minutes of actual physician time per visit. While this model of medical
practice may thrive financially, it does so at a very high price.
Practice overhead costs sometimes reach greater than 70% of practice
income. Patients are often dissatisfied with the quality of care they
receive. Doctors are often frustrated with the restrictions this model
puts on the doctor-patient relationship.
My practice is designed to enhance the doctor-patient relationship by
providing personalized, hands on, accessible health care. This is
accomplished by a drastic reduction in practice overhead costs. I
practice independently, without any employees. By utilizing readily
available technologies such as the internet, electronic health records, and a small patient registry, (300-400 patients), I am able to
simplify the office tasks that traditionally would require employees.
By doing this, I am able to keep my costs down which means I am able to
see fewer patients a day, and can spend more time with each patient.
In addition to providing medical care for the whole family, I also provide medical acupuncture services. My overall focus is integrative using functional medicine as my approach.
