What is an Ideal Medical Practice?

This practice is part of the Ideal Medical Practices (IMPs) project, an exciting community of doctors throughout the United States who have joined together in an effort to transform the way that we are delivering primary care.  Together we are working to support the development of practices that deliver ideal care for patients in a balanced, ethical, and sustainable way. We do this by focusing on the pillars of effective primary care: excellent access and efficiency (patients can say “I can get care when and how I need it”), relationship over time (patients can say “I have a doctor who knows me as a person”), comprehensive services (patients can say “My doctor takes care of the bulk of my health care needs), and care coordination (patients can say, “My doctor coordinates any and all care I need.”).

How's Your Health?

One important tool used by many "IMPs" is "How's Your Health". This is an secure online patient questionnaire that gives both you (the patient) and me (the physician) very useful information to help in evaluation of both health and health care delivery.  I ask that all my patients please do this questionnaire once a year.

Here is a link to "How's Your Health". If you are already a patient of mine, PLEASE ENTER MY CODE: IMP402 when you start the survey and please request that the information be emailed to me at the end of the survey.

Practice Features

Online appointment scheduling

By clicking here, you may schedule your own appointment without having to call a secretary. In the case that all appointments are booked when you need to come in, please call my office at 421-0775.

Open access scheduling

If you are already an established patient of mine, I always have room to see you if you need to be seen urgently.  If all of the appointments are already filled online, please call directly (831-421-0775) or email me (lonna@wholefamilymd.com) to schedule an appointment to be seen within the next 24 hours.

Home visits

If you are too sick to come in, you are home-bound, or you need a home visit for other reasons, I do offer house calls within a 20 minute driving distance of downtown.  This can be arranged on an individual basis; please ask.  I often need to arrange home visits several days in advance to be sure I have enough time.

It can often be too much for new families to come in to the office with their little babies for newborn visits. While I will see babies at Dominican, I also offer visits at home. This is one of my favorite things to do.

24 hour access

All established patients will have access to my cell phone number to be used in case of medical emergency. With the exception of periodic vacations, I will remain on call for registered patients 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. When I am not available, appropriate coverage will be provided by another physician.
